While summer was in full swing, we made good progress on our chair for the Chairity 2022.
I’ll be honest with you, dear reader: the second I saw the chair, I knew exactly how it should look after the design and re-upholstery work.
My inspiration came from the shape of this beautiful chair. I immediately knew that there will be two fabrics to look for, a darker bolder one and a lighter softer one. I saw it like Yin and Yang, with the stronger side tenderly hugging the gentle side.
To achieve this harmonious contrast, I paired a luxurious royal blue velvet with a soft off-white boucle textile. The chair will be protected by Fiber-Seal of Triangle & Triad once we bring it the Green Chair Project headquarters.
For the re-upholstery work, I teamed up with Y & J Furniture, a Durham based furniture maker and upholstery shop.
They were founded all the way back in 1946! The experienced folks at Y&J help keep your antique furniture looking pristine or update your favorite pieces. Just like LK Design, they serve the Triangle Area of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and beyond.
Ben and his team help me on many projects, and I was glad to have them work on my chair.

The frame of the chair was in a good shape, but we had to replace all the batting.
It will be a 99.99% new chair =)
I think it will turn out great. It’ll be a statement piece for its new home!

The Green Chair Project is a nonprofit organization that reuses donated furnishings for people facing the challenges of homelessness, crisis or disaster. Since 2010, The Green Chair Project has helped over 12,000 individuals to begin anew. It has partnered with other nonprofit agencies to provide essential furnishings and services to families and individuals.
The Chairity 2022 is a multi-day event that will feature our community's best interior designers, home furnishing manufacturers, and industry professionals, showcasing not only signature chair makeovers but fully curated living spaces. All furniture featured in the showcase will be available for purchase during the event to help support The Green Chair's mission to provide children with beds of their own and furnishings for families.
